Modeling Plausible Behaviour of Cognitive Agents
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper describes a formal framework for the representation of agents that do not necessarily share common beliefs and goals. In this framework, that we consider to be a plausible model of cognitive agent behaviour in a multiagent system, the agents are able to reason based on assumptions while facing inconsistencies, manifest preferences over their beliefs, select and dynamically modify their attitude towards the beliefs of other agents. We use the same framework to support agent communication and rational reactions to communicative acts, and to develop plausible models of agents, without access to the internal structure of those agents. The main idea of this work is that default reasoning enhanced with preferences, as formerly proposed by the first author for the monoagent case, may uniformly support plausible solutions for the design and modeling of many agent features in open multiagent systems 1.

Resolving Elided Scopes of Modality in OntoAgent
This paper describes how intelligent agents modeled within the OntoAgent cognitive architecture treat the linguistic phenomenon of modal scope ellipsis. The approach offers two innovative aspects with respect to cognitive modeling: (1) ellipsis treatment is distributed across processing modules in a psychologically plausible way and (2) agents are prepared to incorporate calculations of utility...
متن کاملA Cognitively Plausible Model of Language Comprehension
Double R Model (Referential and Relational Model) is a model of language comprehension intended for use in the development of software agents with NLP capabilities. Double R Model is fairly unique in adopting a cognitively plausible approach to modeling language comprehension, while at the same time attempting to support the development of large-scale, functional models. The key claim is that a...
متن کاملA Self-Organized Internal Models Architecture for Coding Sensory–Motor Schemes
Cognitive robotics research draws inspiration from theories and models on cognition, as conceived by neuroscience or cognitive psychology, to investigate biologically plausible computational models in artificial agents. In this field, the theoretical framework of Grounded Cognition provides epistemological and methodological grounds for the computational modeling of cognition. It has been stres...
متن کاملA Naturalistic, Functional Approach to Modeling Language Comprehension
This paper describes a naturalistic approach to the development of a large-scale, functional, cognitively plausible model of language comprehension, and contrasts the approach with mainstream cognitive modeling and computational linguistic research. An approach to research is described which accepts the theoretical constraints of a cognitive architecture, while replacing the fine-grained empiri...
متن کاملAn Argument for an Analogical Perspective on Rationality & Decision-Making
Humans are without any doubts the prototypical example of agents that can hold rational beliefs and can show rational behaviour. When modeling human decision-making, it seems reasonable to take the remarkable abilities of humans into account with respect to rational behaviour, but also the apparent deficiencies of humans shining up in certain rationality tasks. Based on well-known challenges fo...
